Perspective

At one corner of the Province, Friday morning, a young woman went to her workplace only to find out that on the previous day a tiff had been had. One would think that as adults we would act appropriately, respectfully and professionally at the work place, and that we as adults would have overcome that 'high school' way of being. But, sadly, this is not the case, or at least not in this young woman's work place.
You see, Friday was "unit day", a fun summer day for the unit of staff, to enjoy the weather, the company, to work on and improve the overall morale of this unit in the office...as it is very much needed. Most were excited, and so looking forward to the day. However, on Friday the young woman learned that the pool party was cancelled, a 'tiff' had been had, feelings were hurt, and then followed...drama drama and more drama. Needless to say, there was lots of whispering, and an uncomfortable atmosphere...What could these women have been fighting about you ask that could caused such a rift for so many - work...one file/case that neither seemed to want, but belongs to both, both held strong to their convictions, and unit day was ruined for all. There was an abundance of complaining, of people being in terrible moods, of whispering, of gossiping - it was a horrible setting, a horrible unit day for all.

At another corner of the Province, an elderly woman who had been ill for the past couple of years, was living her last moments and breathing in her last breaths.

The young woman remembering being 10 years old and walking from the barn hand in hand with her grandfather and him asking "Would you like to have a new Grammie?". She remembers saying "Yes" but not truly understanding why she was asked, or where the quetion would lead. Soon thereafter though, there she was, a new Grammie. Looking back, the young woman now understands and looks back in awe and admiration of her grandfather. Her grandfather is the rock, the center, the strength of the entire family, hardened by tragedy and responsibility of the times and generation (of being a farmer and father of 5) - how lovely it must have been for him - to be in love, to have fallen in love for the second time and to have shared such a special moment with his little grand-daughter, privately and quietly but excitedly. A memory cherished always, but more importantly now understood.

Now a few days later, the young woman is sad, sad looking back on the day she spent, the day she wasted, something so much more important was happening at another corner of the Province, if only.

At twelve o'clock on Friday, the elderly woman passed.

Two corners of the Province, two lives, two events, two realities....Maybe this is why we find celebrities so interesting, we live our lives and know the occurrences of our events, but too have knowledge of theirs and of the events and activities they are doing in the same moments of time that we are living. One woman, dealing with such an incredibly disheartening day at a suppos'ed professional workplace and the other, going through something with a far greater importance, something that we will all be faced with, that all families are faced with - the last breaths, the goodbyes of loved ones, the telephone calls to be made and questions to be answered, the visitation times, the family gatherings, the funeral, the after effect - the sorrow, the loneliness.

Perspective.

McSkid Mark

Tired and sore, sore and tired……Running is going really well, although I’m finding that the weight isn’t melting off as quickly as it usually does. My muffin top is sticking around…could be age? Maybe the metabolism is slowing down... Ugh, hopefully not though because I can see myself never working out ‘hard enough’ to keep it off completely…Part of my motivation has been that I see results quite quickly and I can eat whatever I want and it doesn’t affect me as long as I’m running, but if this isn’t the case any longer…it will be difficult to put in the extra time and effort without the results. Although I must say, sunshine is a great motivator, just exiting the office at lunch to be in the sun – I love!

Loving the hot weather and sunshine – so happy summer is finally here.

Seems last week we were bored but this week have a lot on the go...

Psyched to go shopping Thursday!

Excited for the Pool Party Friday!

Feeling uncertain about the Pig Roast on Saturday…..but should be an experience and may be really fun!

Stagette on Saturday night, DM is super and will be so shocked, and appreciative and most importantly surprised – it is sure to be a really fun night!

The kid’s birthday party went off without a hitch, we had friends in for BBQ, ice cream cake and some drinks – only had one puker! Haha and he belongs to me. No we had a lot of fun, we made treat bags for the puppies (3) and let them wear party hats, although this did not last long at all because they loved ripping them off each other’s heads and shredding them, did manage a couple of pictures though. JC (6 month old puppy) had a bit of a stomach virus that day though and ended up having pure liquid diarhea on the neighbours deck (who are friends and thought the story was hilarious…luckily), so A took buckets of soapy water to wash it away, but ended up vomiting right on top of it due to the smell – taste he got in his mouth. We all almost died, absolutely disgusting but sooo funny! Good times….good times…

This week is a short one for me – and definitely needed. The countdown is on to our vacation in August, I cannot wait for it to arrive, but at the same time I want it to last and to enjoy every minute…relaxation, shopping, beach….divine!

Oh, the 'Title' is a line from Two and a Half Men, I could have written down 30 good lines from that show, man oh man that is a funny show! :)

My oh my oh my

I eat breakfast in the mornings, cereal usually, but if I bring my lunch to work – ¾ of it is gone by 11:00 a.m.

Today is the kid’s 1st Birthday!! We are taking him swimming with his friend, J.C. and having friends in for cake and BBQ. Should be a cute and fun night – party hats and treat bags will be provided. Pictures may follow….

My job never slows down lately, I think this is week 10 of pure madness !! omg….anyways I find myself having so much to write about and then when I have the time, it leaves me.

Henry Morgentaler – recently nominated to receive Canada’s highest honour – The Order of Canada - an 85 year old man, an Auschwitz survivor, and who is Canada’s most visible pro-choice activist. And despite his age and the decades behind his struggle, he remains as passionately committed to his controversial cause — ensuring that all Canadian women have access to safe, legal abortions.
Nothing short of extremely interesting – this is by far in my lifetime the most interesting, high profile, quick to debate, most attention seeking of nominations for the Order of Canada. Whether you agree or disagree with the issue of abortion, are pro-choice or pro-life, whatever the case may be, Henry Morgentaler has paved a way for woman, for Canadian woman, who have only had rights for a very short time to begin with – and for this, I as a Canadian woman am greatful. Because we do live in a democratic society, not one that is communist, not one that is any longer allowed to degrade or push aside or be dismissive to women, but one that ensures we have rights – Human Rights. Having the ownership to choose and to be given choices – is something to rejoice and he did make this possible – whether you agree or disagree with the issue, you have been given the right to choose!

Mats Sundin – I am beyond disappointed in you, you were given such respect, a place of honour – looked at with admiration and high regard from so many in Canada, so many loyal Toronto Maple Leaf fans. But you, 12 years later, disrespect, disregard, are self-absorbed and shadowed. To lead a team astray and to state to everyone all over the World that you will remain a Toronto Maple Leaf, you will play out your career as a Maple Leaf, you love Toronto, Toronto is your home, Toronto and the Maple Leafs’ Organization has treated you so well – as a Canadian, as Gold – and then to do this…..Ass! We do not want you back. Retire, fly free to Vancouver, NY, even Montreal…..good riddens Sundin – we deserve better – Fletcher will take you if you come, he is desperate and we realize that, but we – the fans – will not hold you in the same regard.
